Fishing Club gears up for the summer

Fishing club, which was introduced in the 2014-15 school year is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the sport of fishing, as well as conservation and preservation techniques that are being used in our state. Fishing club is a non-competitive team for the first year. We are hoping that with enough interest and participation we will be competing at the high-school level by next year.  The Legacy Fishing Team is being offered to students grade 6-10 with several opportunities to build friendships and teammates. We are looking for students who are willing to put some time into community building events, fundraisers, and outdoor activities. We are also making sure that the students who join fishing club are academically and behaviorally ready to participate. In order for us to ensure the safety of the whole group as well as your student, we are asking that every prospective fishing team member gets an endorsement signature on the permission slip from 3 out of 4 MYP teachers, as well as 1 administrator.  Students will take part in at least 2 outings to local fisheries to learn, practice, and fish with success.

2017-2018 Legacy Academy Fishing Team 2017-18 Legacy Academy Fishing Team
On Monday May 7th, the 2018 Legacy Academy Fishing Team competed at the Illinois High School Sectional at Pierce Lake in Rock Cut State Park. Out of 26 teams we finished 7th, which is something to be extremely proud of in our first year competing. Our students got to experience being in the spotlight in what are called the “hot seats” as leaders of the tournament for several boats before a boat weighed a bag of fish to take the lead.
